Saudi Renewable Capacity Growth Surges to 57.5 GW Across 64 Projects

Saudi Arabia’s journey toward a diversified energy future is gaining serious momentum. Since the launch of its National Renewable Energy Programme (NREP) in 2017, the Kingdom has tendered 64 renewable energy projects totaling 57.5 gigawatts (GW), marking a significant leap in its clean energy ambitions.

40 Solar, 9 Wind, and 15 Storage Projects Drive Capacity Growth

The Ministry of Energy recently shared on social platform X that the portfolio includes 40 solar projects, 9 wind farms, and 15 energy storage initiatives. This mix reflects a strategic approach to harnessing the Kingdom’s abundant solar and wind resources while building resilience through storage.

Of the total capacity tendered, 38.7 GW have already been awarded, signaling strong investor confidence and rapid project maturation. This awarded capacity is a key indicator of Saudi Renewable Capacity Growth, showing that the Kingdom is not just planning but actively executing its energy transition.

SAR 93 Billion in PPAs Underscore Investment Commitment

Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) signed to date represent approximately SAR 93 billion ($24.8 billion) in investment. These agreements are long-term partnerships that anchor the Kingdom’s renewable future.

The scale of investment also highlights the economic ripple effect of Saudi Renewable Capacity Growth, from job creation and infrastructure development to technology transfer and regional energy leadership.

30 GWh of Energy Storage Tendered, 8 GWh Online

Energy storage is emerging as a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia’s renewable strategy. The Ministry confirmed that 30 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of storage capacity have been tendered, with 8 GWh already connected to the grid.

This progress is vital for grid stability and peak load management, especially as intermittent sources like solar and wind become more prominent. The integration of storage solutions ensures that Saudi Renewable Capacity Growth is not just about volume—but about reliability and long-term sustainability.

Vision 2030: Clean Energy as a Strategic Imperative

These developments are tightly aligned with Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia’s blueprint for economic diversification and environmental stewardship. By reducing dependence on liquid fuels for electricity generation, the Kingdom is positioning itself as a regional leader in clean energy innovation.

Saudi Renewable Capacity Growth is a reflection of strategic intent. With each tendered project, the Kingdom moves closer to a future where energy is cleaner, more secure, and economically transformative.
